Mother's Day
by Taken from the Idea Swap on ChildrensMinistry.net

photoHave the children host a breakfast for their mother's and grandmother's. Eat breakfast, make gifts and hold a short concert.

Take card stock, which sells for about .09 a sheet at an office supply store and make each mother a bookmark on a computer with this little poem on it: A Mother's love like the Love of Christ is Patient, Kind, and True. On your special Day We Praise God and Pray, Thanking Him so much for you! End the poem with a little picture and Proverbs 31:26

Have the children plant sunflowers (that are already started from seed) into small terra cotta pots that the children will decorate themselves. The terra cotta pots are less than 50 cents ea at the craft store. I am then making a scripture verse. Using Proverbs 31:28: "her children will rise and call her blessed" as an object lesson since the sunflower does 'rise' to quite a height on the computer which I will cut into strips to make small scrolls; and attach these 'scrolls to a bamboo shish-ke-bob type skewer and stick it in the dirt next to the plant.

Have the children put on a little program & had a "tea" for their mothers.

“A Helping Hands" book might work. For each child you will need 4 inside pages the shape of a handprint and a cover in the same shape. Printed on each are the words "I Will . . ." You can lead the children in a discussion of ways they can help their moms such as taking out the trash, watering plants, folding towels, sweeping the floor, etc. They can draw pictures of what they will do in the provided space below the words "I will..." The accompanying verse could be Ecclesiastes. 9:10, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might."
The children could make a placemat for their mom's which is titled "Thank You." They could draw pictures of things they want to thank their moms for doing for them -- or find pictures in magazines.
Make candy roses for the moms. Take two Hershey’s kisses and put them bottom to bottom, them cover them with clear cellophane type of paper, then attach them
to a green pipe cleaner with florist tape, you can also attach small green construction paper leaves and a little note of love for mom. They look like a wonderful little rosebud

Use seed packets and homemade cards that read something like: "Mom, you plant the seeds..." (on the inside)"... that will help me bear fruit for Jesus." using Galatians 5:22

A simple idea for a card from little ones is to trace their hands onto many different colors of paper and glue onto front of const. paper card. Cut out a "flowerpot" shape and glue to the bottom of the card. Glue strips of green paper or ribbon from each hand to the "flowerpot." Each hand makes a colorful flower. I have also made this into a 3-D flower arrangement they can carry home by stapling two handprints together around the edges, but leaving the finger part open (it looks similar to a tulip when it is done) and attaching it to a pipe cleaner.

Make a handprint or footprint in wet sand. Pour plaster of Paris (1 1/2 c. water, add plaster of Paris until mixture is thick and pourable) into the mold. Poke a piece of string into the plaster. Let harden. Remove cast and brush off extra sand. Tie a meaningful poem to the string.

Host "Muffins with Mom" with all kinds of juices and coffees. Have the children sit with their mother (or adopt mothers for children who have none, or elderly widows, etc) Have each child present a gift for their "mother". Then the children could perform a little musical skit or song. This is plenty, it takes pressure off of kids and parents...but most of all leaders. The same could be done for Dads: "donuts with dad"!
